British vulgar insult from 'wank' (masturbate). Means contemptible person, idiot. Common British insult since the 1940s-50s. More vulgar than 'tosser' but very widely used. The hand gesture (fist moving) is internationally recognized. Particularly British insult, Americans use different terms.
