Etymology & History

British drink mixing beer and lemonade (or ginger beer), from 'shandygaff' (dialect term). Popular in pubs as lower-alcohol refreshing option. 'Half a shandy' is mild drink order. The drink and term are more British than American, where beer-lemonade mix is uncommon. Traditional summer drink.
