Etymology & History

British insult for idiot or fool, possibly from 'plonk' (to set down heavily) or Yiddish. Popularized by BBC sitcom 'Only Fools and Horses' (1981-2003) through Del Boy calling Rodney 'a right plonker'. Pre-existed the show but became mainstream through it. Mild insult, suitable for family use.
