Northern English/Midlands term for sandwich, particularly with particular fillings. 'Bacon butty', 'chip butty', 'jam butty'. From 'buttered bread'. Regional variation: some areas use 'barm', 'bap', 'batch', 'roll'. The regional bread-roll terminology variation is uniquely British phenomenon.
